Black Bean Bolognese

Black bean bolognese from the cookbook of Donna Hay, but made on the Grill Guru. Super easy and very tasty. Read on for the recipe.


  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, pressed
  • 250 gr minced beef
  • 400 gr canned cherry tomatoes
  • 400 gr canned black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 125 ml tomato sauce
  • 125 ml beef stock
  • Salt and pepper


Heat the Grill Guru to a temperature of 200 degrees indirect, use the Plate Setter. Heat a large Dutch Oven in the BBQ and when your pan is hot add the olive oil, onion and garlic. Fry for 5 minutes until the onion is translucent. Add the minced meat and fry for about 5 mins, stirring, until browned.

Add the tomatoes, beans and tomato sauce, stock and salt and pepper to taste. Stir and simmer for 30 min until the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally. Serve the black bean bolognese with pasta.
